While it certainly wouldn't be fun to lose with quads, it will happen to you if you play enough hands.  I suppose the thing is that you shouldn't be playing with money that will truly hurt if you if you lose it - an aspect of bankroll management that is harder to quantify than having X times the buyin, but may be just as important.

While I agree with your post there was no indication that he had been playing beyond his bankroll.
Back on topic of bad beats I flopped aces full on a board of A66 and ran into quad sixes. Ran me about $200.
