Poker sucks
« on: June 13, 2009, 01:10:17 PM »
Im starting to think that poker sucks, its just to many terrible players. Now with the so called random number generator and the variance every idiot in the world has a better chance than the average good player. I sit and play for hours everyday and watch my bankroll drop because of magic and super bad luck to an unassumming tard im tired of it the game sucks!!

Sure seems that way sometimes, maybe more for some than for others.  Especially if you play a lot of poker, mostly freerolls or low buyins.  However, we tend to only remeber the bad times/beats.  Poker isn't always bad, it goes in cycles with its ups and downs.  Think of some great hands you've had that made you a winner.  Think positive!!!

Sometimes I think we get "addicted" to the win.  When we have a run of bad cards it can really bring us down to the point that we hate the game.  Still, we can't seem to stay away. Hang in there.  Things will turn around for you soon. ;D

if you to listen to pros talk about tourneys they always seem to suggest that most long term winning strategies are mostly just sitting back and grinding grinding grinding and waiting for that one big pot in 4 hours or something, only way to protect yourself against the large sea of noobs i guess, idk when everyone has those long stretches of bad luck or frustration from not being rewarded for being patient, i just take a break and start being more wild and having fun with poker with friends

there will always be the bad beats and we need to learn of them... but as someone said memory is weaker with our wins and we are the ones that give a bad beat to someone else... we remember more our great hand that got beaten on the river... but thats how poker goes... if poker was predictable it wouldnt have so many players or wouldnt be so much interesting.

Problem with that theory is that the pro's dont face allin idiots hand after hand with 9/4os etc their advice is great but its not relevant when playing FR's or tourneys for a few bucks, when u play $2K, $5K or $10K buyins I suspect u think about ur play a bit more.

Here goes 1 tip that can help you in your games... when I choose to play a tight game, so I wont have many action during the tourney... what I do is find a Freeroll at the same time, or play some free chips tourney where I can play loose and get the action needed, while on the buy-in I am playing "better poker" to win...

i think thats very good advice.  you really gotta take some time to have fun with it.  find out what games you really enjoy and make it a point to do those more often.  i really love to play horse games and forum games  so i make sure to squeeze those in between my nlhe.  i found it was really nlhe that wears me down quick.
