Any suggestions
« on: May 19, 2009, 04:06:51 PM »
I've been playing online poker for about 3 years now,   I'm haveing a real tough time establishing a decent bankroll from 0.    If chris furguson can do it, then so can i,  But i'm having a few issues:
#1 Bankroll management---I'm figuring that out slowly!
#2 Tilting at the table---How do i stop from getting so angry at these people who sit down at a table and down care?
#3 I find myself playing other people game and not my own-----What tips could help me stick to my game?
#4 is there any good way to control my temper?

i know the cards don't always fall the way i want them to!   i know bad beats are gonna hit me hard!  But how to make sure i'm in the right position is my main problem.   I always seem like i'm out of position... I always seems like i'm missing that one draw that i need to win.

I'm very serious about poker!   i will do whatever it takes to make Poker my profession... Guaranteed, whatever it takes.
If anyone has any good opinions on how i can improve my game on and off the table please feel free to give me a shove in the right direction.
Thanks everyone and good luck hitting the felt!

I heard somewhere(I think Daniel Negranue said it) that you can't have emotions at the table.  I try to remember that when I play.  If you let your emotions get in the way of your game it is very easy to be on tilt and play someone else's game.

Building a bankroll from freerolls is doable, but not easy. You can deposit at some poker rooms now for as little as $10.  It may be better to do that and make it grow.

Private freerolls and buy ins are usually going to be easier to play and make it to the money than say a freeroll at PokerStars with $12000 people in the game.

Good luck to you at the games!

I know it sounds trite, but you gotta leave your emotions at the door.

You will get outdrawn, outplayed and very badly beaten by the worst of (or maybe it is the best of) the donkey pokertards.

When some nitwit is smiled upon by the pokergods and all of your beautiful play for the last 4 hours is crushed to nothing by the player who does not have the good sense or good manners to realize that he/she is not a poker genius when they happen to get lucky on the river, your best play is to shrug and smile.

I still get steamed at times, but since I have been working on getting unemotional, I do find that I go deeper in more tourneys.

Cant't always wait for great hands to call.  Must have a blend of various calls despite the hand.  After the flop is the crucial decision time where you can make or break your bankroll.

If you are trying to start from freerolls your bankroll will start growing slowly at first, but then you can make some profit with it... but you will need to give it some months.

This is one the hardest skills to manage, one tip could be... play each hand as what it is, just 1 hand. Next hand is another game.
If you get on tilt on 1 hand... dont let it affect your game on the next.

What you need to do is not get any personal game on any table... if someone beat you thats over... next hand is a new game and you need to be concentrated on the game... not on getting back what you lost or taking revenge on someone... then is when you finish again at cero.

#3 I find myself playing other people game and not my own-----What tips could help me stick to my game?
Enter the table with the amount of money you can handle to lose... once you place some money on the table consider it lost, or free money... so you wont be afraid of risking any amount of money you have on the table at any time... when you get afraid of losing is when you fall on others game and start to be more conservative or start folding much more hands...

Tip: think of an strategy before you enter the table and concentrate on it while you are there, no matter how the game is going... but watch your opponents and try to find out, as fast as possible, who are the conservative player, who the aggresive, and specially the bluffers... but always be carefull with this last group.

#4 is there any good way to control my temper?

buy a stress ball or get a tennis ball, and each time you lose temper squeeze it until you get calm again... or even throw it as hard as possible to the wall... it will bounce back to you... lol repeat this proceed until you get calm, lol

to reduce the effect of a bad beat... state the amount of money you want to win and when you reach that amount, leave the table... if you want to can come back with less money and keep playing but your income from previous hands will be safe on your bankroll and not at risk on the table.

I mean if you start with $10.00 when you double you can leave and start again with $10.00... you will already have the $10.00 won safely in your account.

Regarding your items number two and four, the best thing I can think of is to turn off all player and observer chat.  This way you are forced to concentrate on the table play only and not the incessant chatter and jabs players constantly give each other.  Depending on the tourney I am playing, I sometime do this and, from past experience, I know it helps.

maybe you might be trying too hard to win and playing too much poker , too many games isnt good , too much of anything is not good maybe you might want to rest for a while and think it over what your doing wrong.
