Here are the seven mistakes to
avoid:

1. Getting Too Emotional

2. Focusing Too Much On The Cards

3. Folding Instead Of Checking

4. Trying Too Hard To "Fool" The Opponent

5. Being Too Consistent

6. Not Adapting To The Skill Level Of Others

I never understand why some people will bet and or call to the river and then fold before a bet...quite lame.

Not paying attention to how others play can hurt.

Not analyzing the board for all possible combinations (flushes, straights, etc.)

Flashing your cards to others is bad.

Always curious as to why people feel the need to show their cards rather than much.. a bad player?

I do it for several reasons. You make a bluff and everyone folds it can get you a call the next time when you have the nuts. The second is if its a really loose table and you want to show the players you did have a hand so they won't call your bluffs later.

Although I would advocate never showing your hand if you don't have to, I am a hypocrite at times and will show for the reasons thus stated. Generally, you have to be careful doing so b/c it does not always work and gives opponents more information. I will also add that if I play with the same people regularly in a more or less friendly atmosphere, I will show a few hands just so they know (think) I'm being honest with my betting.

Hi all,.

How about drinking heavily before and during play....

I used to do this a lot (back in the day) and really, getting over confident with two pair whene there are flushes and straights draws galore that you miss because you're just focused on yer measly hand. lol.

Drink to get relaxed.... not slaughtered and cocky.
