Whipping a dead horse ...
« on: November 02, 2007, 02:18:22 PM »
I've whipped this dead old horse before and got no really satisfactory result (or response) ... but i'll give it one more try.

Tournament Scheduling!

I haven't played many forum events for quite a while, simply because there are so very few to play. Checked the calendar and did a very quick count of the tournaments. Could only count November and October; appears that it doesn't save the history longer than one month.

Now, if you reg for a tourney, you hopefully plan on going all the way. And even the very quickest tournament, you must count on at least 2-3 hours. And 4pm EST, well that's 10pm CET (Central European). So a tournament starting at 4pm, and a European happens to have a bit of luck, it is very doubtful he/she would be in bed before 1am.

Now ... a count of the tournaments and their starting times shows

....................... before 4pm .......... after 4pm
October................... 3 ...................... 57
November ............... 3 ...................... 70

The standard response is that the majority of the members of the forum are North American, and tournaments are primarily scheduled to suit the majority. I can buy that ... I've already asked at least once before about the global distribution of forum members, but the response has been little to none. Asked of the powers that be and got no response. Posted asking members to state where they live, and when and where they would like to play. Got one (1!) response! So I'll beat the dead horse and ask again.

In a two-month period, 127 tournaments starting 4pm or later, and SIX (6) tournaments starting before 4pm. Does this accurately reflect the proportion of European members in this forum? Does this accurately reflect the global distribution of the players who participate (or would like to participate) in forum events?

How about some numbers, Buc ???

This Month i have started using some of the partners sites we use to use for Sunday events. Most of the games on the sites that don't allow US players are the ones that start earlier. With them being on Sundays it also allows Canada members to play. Since I just started using the partners again they want to see a good turnout before the offer more events.

Sorry, Buc, but that was not a valid response to my inquiry!

I understand all the arguments, both for and against.
As I said, I could only count the past two months. I've been looking at the calendar for several months and the scheduling has been the same; virtually all events start too late for European players.

So how about some numbers?
6 tourneys that Europeans can reasonably enter, and well over 100 that start too late.
Is it possibly true that only 5-6% of the members are outside N America?

What's the total membership of this forum?
How many members are in the North American time zones?
How many of them play in forum events, when possible?
How many members are in the European time zones?
How many of them play in forum events, when possible?

Reasonably accurate estimates may be acceptable ...
