my bad beat
« on: February 24, 2006, 07:52:36 AM »
Okay my bad beat happened at a real casino on a limit table...I had 8 spades, 8 clubs on the SB and the guy under the gun had already raised so I just called (just in case he maybe had a better pair). The flop comes 8 hearts, 9 hearts, 8 diamonds...quads :D  :D ...i am first to act so I check hoping the guy that raised bets, he does, then it gets reraised twice so I cap it thinking this is awesome they're just feeding me their chips...the turn is 9 diamonds and it gets capped again but now it's down to three of us...the river is 9 spades     iknow what's coming so i check and the original raiser bets, the other guy folds(flush draw??) and I just call(i'm committed now). I flip my 8's and buddy who raised to begin with turns over his cards...9 clubs, 6 clubs... his favorite hand so he said....what I learned...don't play limit !!!! :(

At the turn, the guy wasn't laying the hand down no matter what. So in NL you would have lost more. That is a horrible bad beat, Had the same type of beat happen to me many times. So actually you could look at it this way, with limit you actually saved money as you wouldn't have raised preflop as you where afraid of a possible over pair.
Good luck.

True, if it was no limit you would have probably lost more unless you overbet the flop, which he may still have called with top two pairs, so it would have been a done deal all the way unless you had done a decent sized preflop raise to get him out.

Have to love poker.

On  a side note, did you get the casinos bad beat jackpot ????
