My opinion about bonuses
« on: April 17, 2007, 03:24:53 PM »
Pokerrooms offer bonuses like 10%,50%,100%. I suppose that here comes the time when offered bonuses will be 500% or 1000%.

For me, a beginner in poker, the level of bonuses was always unimportant. When I was signing in my first pokerroom I knew nothing about texas holdem. I didn't know even the rules of the game. I didn't want to pay for my play because of my low skills. I didn't want to invest my money in the beginning of my poker career :)

I think that 90% of beginners think like this, and the bonus offers do not find interested people among beginners.  I am not sure if the bonus offers are so attractive even for intermediate or advanced players.
What is the biggest pokerroom bonus you were able to get? Was it worth of your efforts?

What I think and my propostion is, that pokerrooms should rather offer free real money for play. Let's say I pay deposite 100$ and they add me 10$ extra which I can't withdraw and I must use the 10$ as buy in. I play in micro stakes tournaments, on micro stakes tables and I learn.
The 10 dollars is the money I will lose certainly. But I can get know something else except freerolls. When I will get higher skills I can play using my 100$ I already paid.

This is my proposition: "No stupid bonuses. Only real extra cash!"

If you are a losing player in cash games, the bonus really serves no purpose. You may even have to play higher levels just to clear it. If you are break even or a winning player the bigger the better. You win anyways so your not playing with their $, it simply becomes yours after you clear it. I wouldnt recommend beginning players deposit anywhere to tell you the truth. Get your feet wet in the free rolls, see where you win and then deposit accordingly. Some sites u can withdraw with no deposit, others your better off depositing before you get winnings. Poker Host was 1 where if you did not deposit before free winnings, they made it next to impossible to cash out for a lower level player. They are now micrgaming, so im assuming it has changes, but as with anything, the fine print is sometimes fine for a reason.

Since statistically they say most online players are losing players.  I don't think the bonus system is going to change any time soon.  Why change what's drawing players into the sites to deposit money they will eventually lose.

Well,if you are a beginner you should start out playing freerolls, and if you win a little,go try the micro tables and see if you can hang.If not you need to learn more, buy some info, books or whatever helps you. After you feel comfy, then search for rhe bonuses.Ya need to learn first.

Agreed  !! too many new players deposit $100 or more then lose it. Learn the game first, then maybe you wont need to deposit.

I learned about bonuses early on and in fact will not even sign up for a new site unless I do get a bonus. I really try to look for sites that are willing to give you free real dollars like Pitbull Poker did recently for me. The $10 they gave me allows me to try out the real money tables without first depositing my own money. I have no problem putting my own money in sites but it is nice to first try them out. I know that all sites allow play money so you can try the site out but players do play different on the play money vs. real money tables and to be honest I can't remember the last time I played a game for play money because to me they are boring and I want to win real money if I sit and play poker.
