Watching the big boys

I recently was watching the high level ring games on PokerStars 25/50 NL Ring.  There were a dozen active tables and I thought I would watch for a while and see how the big betters play.  After watching a few tables I noticed that there were a lot of players playing more than one table.  There is a guy from Canada that was playing 11 tables simultaneously with half of them being short handed. His average tray was around 5K or better. He had five figures on a couple of the tables.  Someone explain how anyone can play like that and win.

It taskes lots of practice.

The biggest thing that has helped my multiple table play is a large monitor. When I first started playing more then 6 tables the old monitor would have screens poppin up all over the larger moniitor I can spread the tables out making it a lot easier.

I got up to where I could play 6 limit games at a time, but they are much easier than no limit because after a while you instantly know what you are going to do. but I never liked playing when I couldn't see all the tables I was playing at.
that's why I stopped at 6, because it was the size of my monitor.

I usually play a maximum of three tables, but have experimented with up to eight.  And I've heard players claim to play as many as 32.  We can't all do that since we differ in how much information we can potentially process, even with practice.  However, I suspect a lot of people could learn to play four to six, or maybe eight.

One key is to realize that you can't play the same game you do at one table.  You have less time to make decisions, so you don't want to put yourself in situations where you're likely to have a lot of tough ones.  That means playing more of an ABC style.

Related to that, since this probably isn't your A game, you want to play at a level where your B game has a positive EV.  Multi-tabling is based on making less money per table, but more money overall by playing more tables.

Many sites won't let you play but 3.  How do they do it?

Play multiple sites

I'll do 4 as long as there isnt a draw game in the mix.... more attention has to be paid to draw games

witchy:

From the post it seems as if the player was playing 11 games on the same site. Is that possible?  What sites allow that?

A lot of poker rooms will let you play as many tables as you want, why would they put a limit on the amount of rake you are willing to give them :)

I don't know why sites would limit the tables, but I can't seem to open more than 3 on Bodog.

Are you using the picture in picture table setting or the separate windows. With the picture in picture there is a limit of 3 within a single window. Since I've never run more than 3 games at one time at Bodog I don't know if a new window is automatically created for the picture in picture view. That might be where the limit is
