Title: Ragged on for 1hr ...
Post by: Hope2WinBig on June 15, 2008, 08:04:29 AM
Yesterday, I joined a freeroll and like usual, someone always goes allin preflop on the very first hand. Well, I had an AK and I was in the mood of "I don't care" so I called. The player had 33 and another called with 55, and 9-10-J-Q came out so I pulled a straight. Well, another player who had a 99 folded his hand and chose not to play the hand with us but he proceeded to rag on me for 1 hr and kept telling me how terrible of a player and how I was a donk, etc. I guess I can't figure out why he didn't feel that the 33 or 55 wasn't a bad hand; doesn't an AK have better odds of winning?

Heads-up the pair is a microscopic favorite by a percent or two, but it's basically a coin toss. Three-handed, don't know what the odds are.
Sounds like a typical freeroll level 1 hand.
I would play an AK any day.

any pocket pair is better preflop than AK....

AK preflop is a drawing hand

A pair is something you have for sure and can build on by getting 2 pair, 3 of a kind, 4 of a kind or fullhouse, AK is a maybe.  Yes I can see your thinking tho where if an A or K comes up then there is a better hand than a small pair, but that's an if.  Your pair will always beat an A or K high hand if he don't pair up.

With what I see you said above, I'm looking at the whiney guy that wasn't even in the hand with his 99.  He should of just shut up and be glad he folded, I think he was just pissed off cause he had a better hand than the other two did and didn't get it, but if he did stay his three 9's would of been beat by your straight anyways.  So, why not shut up and be happy he folded, right?
