Great post Don. I think Sklansky's chart is as good as it gets and comined with Harrington's interpretation an excellent guide for most situstions.

Great chart. But how many people try playing opposite? E.G. the low odds cards that when they hit, they cash big?  Played a guy one day, wasn't a hand he didn't like, and he would hit and then win- if you play tight you can still lose unless you have the nuts.  Sometimes the math confuses me- cuz it seems like that person should lose over the long run, maybe I just caught him on a lucky day.

Hi all,

I have already posted a thread on odds of making drawing premium hands.

As a rule of thumb whene looking at the odds you should turn this into people betting ino the pot.

For example if you have suited cards of say 8/J you have about 8 to 1 chance of hitting an flush draw. Around a ten person table that should, by theory, make you the only person to hit it and can bet accordingly. You must be aware, though, that this is theory and in most cases people will bet out with suited cards.

There is also a 3 to 1 chance of hitting either the J or 8 to pair on the flop meaning that if there is four people in the pot you should be a favourite with the flopped pair.

All this is theoretical and if someone is betting like they have a monster hand...... study the flop very carefully.

Hope this helps and if there are mistakes in this theory, please post a reply and politely put me right!

Take care all,

Dom

Great chart which I'm sure most players use.  Also, the feel of the table play at a precise moment is valuable in conjunction with using this chart.  Thanks.

Is it for limit or no limit?

It makes perfect sense, but...   lots of other factors like position and chip stack and the play of others, etc also factor heavily in the mix.
